The Adidas TS Bounce Commander

For those of you who follow our weekly “Kicks” reviews and release information, you may remember our full review of the Adidas TMac TS Creator’s or the Kevin Garnett TS Commander’s. Well Adidas has just announced this week the release of a new shoe that is sort of a cross between the two. They are calling it the TS Bounce Commander. I’m super jacked about this shoe. I have a lot of different basketball shoes cause i’m a sneaker junkie (and because adidas and converse send me samples from time to time), but my favorite playing shoes right now are definitely the TS Creators.

That’s why I can’t wait to get my hands on a pair of these Bounce Commander’s. The technology is apparently even better than the Creator’s because of this new “Bounce TM” technology. It’s not just the name apparently the midsole stretches and springs back as you run giving you a bounce to your step. The midsole material is apparently being called TPU or Thermo Plastic Urethane, essentially meaning it is resistant to various temperature changes.

Just like the other Creator/Commanders you will have choice of a few colorways based on the player that is repping them. Adidas has informed us that Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, and Michael Beasley will all have their own Team Signature (TS) Bounce Commanders. In fact the word is that Kevin Garnett will even have two Celtics colorways, a Black (as shown here), and a white.

The initial release of the TS Bounce Commander is available now at adidas Sport Performance stores, FinishLine, Eastbay, Sports Authority and will range in four colorways for Garnett, Howard and Duncan. All of the colorways are retailing at $109.99. I’m figurin’ this is a great bargain for the sick technology you’re getting with these.

I haven’t tried them out yet personally, but when I do i’ll let you all know what this “Bounce” technology really feels like, and if it’s legit!

The easiest way to get your kids out the door is to turn off any device that plugs into your kids brain. Therefore, the number 1 way to get our kids to exercise is:

1. Turn off the TV, the computer and the X- Box.

Over the past two decades, the percentage of overweight children has doubled and sedentary behaviors such as watching television and playing video games have become a part of everyday life. (Family Community Health 2002; 25:10.) To make matters worse, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition states that a significant portion of childrens daily caloric intake is consumed while watching television. I can guarantee you that the majority of calories consumed during unsupervised television viewing come from pure junk food.

2. Set a Good Example:

Instead of sending your kids outside to play go with them! Set a good example. Initiate family bike rides or walks in the park as often as schedules will allow. The best opportunity to get your family to exercise is right after dinner! Try it and you will all have fun!

3. Little Kids Need Exercise Too:

According to the National Association for sport and physical activity, simple but targeted activities are recommended for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. Each day, toddlers should have at least 30 minutes of structured physical activity and pre-schoolers should have at least an hour. Examples for toddlers include follow-along songs or chasing a ball; and for older children, balancing games or tumbling. (Child Health Alert2002:2) Exercise should be a routine part of daily life and parents should join in, not just sit on the sidelines and watch their children romp.

4. Get Your Kids Involved in Sports:

One of the best things my dad ever did for me was to sign me up for football. It is amazing to me that by the age of 10, I had already decided that I was too small and not good enough to play football. Dad thought otherwise and he was right. I just loved to play that game and I played until I was 18 years old. Being involved in sports is a great way for your children to get in shape, build confidence, make new friends and have fun. I recently had the privilege of getting a gleeful phone call from my girlfriends 11 year old son, Taylor. He was so excited and happy to hear that he had been chosen to be on our districts rep soccer team. Becoming involved in your kids activities has just as many benefits for the parents! The key is to encourage but not force your childs participation in sports. Try exposing them to a number of different sports and activities and then allow them to choose the one that interests them the most.

5. Girls Should Play as Much as Boys:

By the age of six, girls already exercise less than boys. There is absolutely no physiological reason for this to happen according to Neil Armstrong of the Childrens Health and Exercise Research Center at the University of Exeter, Great Britain. He feels parents should encourage girls to enjoy the same level of physical activity and sports as the boys. If we are truly living in an age of equality and equal opportunity, lets start with the children. It is important not to distinguish between girl games and boy games especially when it comes to exercise. Girls should be allowed and encouraged to learn how to throw a baseball, play hockey and perform traditional male household duties such as washing the car and cleaning out the garage.

6. The Family that Plays Together Stays Together:

Many of my most cherished moments in life have been physical activities involving the whole family. I am not talking about the big competitive sports match either. My mom, dad, sister and I still laugh hysterically when we talk about the Smith family dart game at Uncle Dicks cabana. I feel that many strong and enduring emotional bonds come through the joy of playing together as a family. I have had many great teachers throughout my life including those much older and much younger than me. When I was in elementary school I was in tears one night because I could not do a simple forward somersault that they taught us in school. Let me tell you that my dad changed my world of crying and tears into laughter and joy by teaching me how to do a somersault in five minutes. Another special moment for me was watching Taylor sink his first ball in the basketball hoop at age eight. He must have taken a hundred shots before he finally got it in the hoop.

Airwalk Brings Back Jim Shoes

In the mid 90’s a new form of music was being played that could not be properly categorized and was quickly dubbed alternative. Likewise, a sneaker company that seemed to do everything differently from everyone else did the same, and their name was Airwalk. While companies were spending millions on endorsement deals, advertising, and research and development, Airwalk did the complete opposite creating the Jim Shoe. A take off on the the phonetically similar “gym shoe”, the Jim Shoe was to be some casual and creative.

Airwalk created a “tennis shoe” which was nothing more than the Jim Shoe covered entirely of tennis ball material. When it came time for them to create a “basketball shoe”, again they took the task literally raising the Jim to a higher cut and laying basketball leather around the upper. Since the initial release of these two memorable Jim Shoes, Airwalk has headed in a different direction; however, the Jim Shoes will be returning in their original form in the near future.

Airwalk is keeping things hush hush about the release for now when it comes to the where and when, but we will give you the updates when they are received.

For whatever reasons, I do not see this around allot. I have seen in one a few people, but no where near as many as I thought their would be. I go downtown tomorrow (a place I haven’t been in a while) and I hope to see that at least the stores are carring them.

Finishline has 3 different colorways. As far as national sneaker and sports retailers who sell online, I have only seen the Jordan PHLY on Finishline. Maybe I missed it somehow. I have seen colorways for the sneaker that is pure heat, but they are not on sale online.

Weird.

The Air Jordan PHLY is a tribute to a highschool coach who got Jordan on the right track. You won’t believe that Jordan being cut from teams and not being number one for the draft, but that is what happened. Skill is a great thing to have, but you need drive too. Talk about failing and turning it into success (but isn’t that what failing is all about?)

The Wall Street Journal, in their series of Olympic posts, gives us a video montage of the latest world class athlete shoes, along with this bit of trivia:

... at the campus of Nike [Beaverton, Oregon], where buildings are named for Olympians such as Steve Prefontaine. The Adidas archrival has rolled out specialty shoes for all 28 official Olympic sports this year. That's up from the 11 it designed at the 2004 Athens Games and one-ups Adidas, which is supplying 27 specialty shoes after steering clear of an equestrian model.
Each company [Nike and Adidas] prides itself on its history of inventiveness: Adidas founder Adi Dassler began designing shoes in his family's laundry room after World War I, while Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman forged his initial sole designs in his wife's waffle iron.
Nothing perks up my day like a good shoe failure story:

After the 1968 games ... Adidas invited U.S. high jumper Dick Fosbury to Herzogenaurach. He'd won gold in Mexico City with his revolutionary "Fosbury flop," turning the straddle technique on its head by going over the bar head and shoulders first. Adidas designed a new shoe with him in mind.
"They didn't work. I tossed them," said Mr. Fosbury, now 61 years old and himself an engineer. He found the prototype too slippery and dubbed it the "Cyclops" because it replaced several spikes in the ball of the shoe with a single one. Mr. Fosbury says he appreciated the effort and still wears only Adidas running shoes: "I'm a loyal guy," he said.
According to the Land of Ideas, Dick Fosbury was further quoted:

I was staggered that this German shoemaker was prepared to spend hours making shoes for me personally. I was unbelievably thankful to him and would never have accepted a penny for wearing them.
Coach K, by the way, is tired of reporters asking if the Team USA players are shoe-sale-inspired:

"You know what, they're going to sell shoes anyway," Krzyzewski said. "Those guys aren't hurting if they sell less shoes. They're doing it because they want to be a part of this. I felt that from every guy the entire time I've been coaching this group."

What happens when you mix up some Barkley with some Rodman (wait, that don’t sound right) and you come up with what looks to be the hottest sneaker this summer. Wasn’t the Air Jordan Fusions suppose to be the hottest sneaker this summer? Well, I think these Sharkleys might take the top spot.

Affordable, nice and, get this cause this is the best part, they actually work!!! At least according to the comment on the sneaker from people who bought them. You can play in it and it feels good and you can chill in them and they look good.

I’m not a big fan of these or how they look but, I can’t front, they alright. If you collect sneakers this HAS to be in your collection. Pick a color and run with it. Also, as many sneaker companies have noticed, you got to have something special for the kids. The kids and baby mrket is the fastest growing area so if your wondering why you keep seeing Air Jordans and Nikes (and other sneaker companies) with kids only colors, that is why.

Anyway, I can’t say I would get them, I just know that I would if my budget and financial plan said I could (I’m grown and sexy people, I don’t have budget, I have a budget AND a financial plan).

Oh man the summer is going to be hot at least sneaker and fashion wise. Not sure about the ladies or mens shoes but we will see..

Released earlier this summer, the limited edition Nike Claw Blazer was the first of a two-part collaboration between Nike and graffiti legend Claw Money. The highly anticipated follow-up to the Blazer, the Nike Claw Vandal Hi will hit streets October 27th. Claw, who has recently reinvented herself as a fashion designer, has a special connection with this sneaker: “I wanted to do the Vandal because it’s my favorite hi-top. And after all -- I’m a vandal, too.”

Jesse Levya, Nike Design Director, was equally enthusiastic about the working with Claw on the Nike Vandal after collaborating with her on the Blazer: “Claw’s unique vision as a female street artist, along with her love affair with the Vandal itself, made this a very exciting project.”

According to Claw, she bought her first beat-up vintage Vandals over ten years ago. She’s been collecting them ever since. “I was instantly mesmerized,” she says. “In my opinion, the Vandal is the Holy Grail of hi-tops.” Being able to put her touch on her favorite sneaker was, in her words, “like writing on the best real estate in town.”

The Nike Claw Vandal Hi retains the shine of the first nylon Vandals, but the Nike design team deconstructed the shoe by removing foam from the upper, allowing it to slouch and crinkle. Claw added peacock feathers to the body in reflective ink to achieve a more “couture” look -- meant to draw attention in the same way the colorful birds do. Old school fat laces keep things from getting too chi-chi.

Nike VandalOriginally a 1985 hoop shoe, the Nike Vandal was one of the first sneakers to have a full nylon upper. Based on the original Air Force 1, the shiny quilted hi-tops with the Velcro strap became a favorite of breakdancers, who rocked them seamlessly with parachute pants. The shoes famously made an appearance in The Terminator, and it wasn’t long before skaters were also seen abusing Vandals on ramps and sidewalks alike. Adidas NBA Basketball Shoe Concept

One of the best things Adidas acquired when they got a hold of Reebok was the exclusive contract with the NBA for footwear. Last year we saw a nice set of NBA Adidas Superstars.

Dettrick Maddox has been hard at work on a concept line of NBA Adidas shoes that he sent our way. At first glance we were very impressed. The NBA team logos are placed and used in artistic ways and not just slapped on the side of the shoes.

The silhouette of the shoe is definately more of an athletic than casual shoe, but with the right fit these kicks would look sick.

The Adidas Centennial [high top] was originally created in France in both suede and leather. The leather edition was produced in white/ redï¿½ white/green white/ natural, and white/ burgundy, while the suede edition was fabricated in colourways such as navy, grey, brown, burgundy or black.

Besides the distinctive shape of its toe box, which had never been seen before in any Adidas basketball shoe, there were many striking features that make it unique. The multi-disk outsole was inscribed with the adidas trefoil to create the maximum branding effect.

The original Jordan V design was inspired by the P-51 Mustang, a WWII fighter plane used by the Tuskegee Airmen combined with a rendering of a Grey Nurse Shark on the midsole. Keeping this theme alive, strong military colors are featured included with the addition of shark eyes and the initials MJJ on the side standing for Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Surely to be a collectors item in the future, these are now available at Jordan Flight Club with a price of $175.

Pictures of the Adidas x Neighborhood Gazelle Vintage were previously seen here. However, at that time, there was no information on when and where the sneakers were going to be released. Now, thanks to Kix Files, here's the info:

The shoes come in two colorways - Black being the home version and White being the away version - and are housed in a shoe case designed specifically for this release. The worldwide launch date is set to be the same as the 2006 World Cup final, July 9th. The home version (black) is available only at Neighborhood Flagship Store in Japan while the away version (white) will be available at adidas Original Shops in Japan & Berlin, Foot-Patrol in London, DaveÃ¢Â€Â™s Quality Meat in New York, Colette in Paris, and D-mop in Hong Kong.

Jam Master Jay is a name that is probably all to familiar to most of us. On October 30th 2002 Jam Master Jay was shot and killed. For the 5th anniversary of Jam Master Jays death, and for the J.A.M Awards which take place on November 29th, Adidas has put together a pack of 4 sneakers. Though this is not he entire catalog, these scans do show several already anticipated releases including the "New Castle" Nike SB Dunk Low and the "Ferris Buehler" Nike SB Dunk High. In addition to these two Dunk SBs, Nike is set to release several Dunk SB Mids and several P-Rod IIs.

Nike Air Max - Spring 2008 Collection

Sneaker News provides a sneak peek of four Nike Air Max shoes from the Spring 2008 collection.

There are three Air Max 1’s and an Air Max 90 in the group. The Air Max 1’s offer a perforated mesh toe box. All the shoes combine a variety of fabrics, including suede, smooth leather and patterned/embossed leathers.

For a slick looking shoe, select the white/cement/grey Air Max 1. This shoe looks great and features touches of red and black. I really love the grey suede in the middle of the shoe.

Another nice combination is the brown/white colorway of the Air Max 1. This shoe offers several shades of brown combined to created a very good looking shoe. This is the most subtle of the four shoes here, but I think it’s the best looking.

The third Air Max 1 is a little more funky. The use of black against the red and blue is nice and the white Swoosh really stands out.

The Air Max 90 in the set features a black/blue/white combination that is sure to please 90 fans. I’m not a fan of this shoe, but the red laces are a nice touch.

Nike Blazer Spring 2008 Preview

Here’s a sneak preview of the Nike Spring 2008 collection. This packages includes Low, High and Super High varieties.

My favorite is the black High pictured above, which features a combination of black and grey suede for a very stylish look. The white Swoosh, laces and sole contrast the black suede nicely. The Nike label on the tongue and heel are blue with yellow lettering. These shoes are sure to please those looking for something sleek yet still relatively simple.

I am not fond of the Low at all. This dark blue leather shoe features a rainbow heel and it just doesn’t work well at all. Perhaps this shoe would have been better in suede or a lighter shade of blue.

The other two pairs of shoes pictured here are a little funky. The black leather shoe has a textured black Swoosh and colorful paint splatters throughout. The final shoe features a patchwork pattern of black, brown and blue leather in and abstract style. I think the brown laces on the black shoes are an interesting touch. But overall, I don’t really love either of these shoes.

Well, it looks like I spoke a little too soon a few days back when I said I hoped the Adidas would NOT bring these shoes back. I just got these sample pics from my friend at juebankongjian.

I don’t know all of the colors that Adidas will release, but the only color i cared for were the pearl white ones.

This was the second model of the “Adidas Kobe” line. Its design took inspiration from the Audi TT. The shoe was a miserable disaster to put it kindly and was the last Adidas shoe that Kobe ever wore.

Co-branding and Your Company

If promotional product marketing is a big part of your campaign, it means it's the right time for you to think about co-branding. In essence, co-branding is putting your brand name juxtapose to a more popularly branded promotional product. For instance, instead of just giving away a "generic shirt" with your logo on it, you could place your name on an Adidas, an Izod or a ,Nike shirt.

Co-branding is a great way to boost brand recognition. Especially true for newer companies, riding on the existing market share of the bigger brands gives your brand a better fighting chance. The alliance between two brands can also offer clients better value. Long established brand items are often of better quality than generic ones. As such, clients get more out of a co-branded promotional item than they would with one that isn't. As an off-shoot of this, the credibility of the established brand is transferred onto yours.

Is it really worth it?

A classic example of successful co-branding is the LiveSTRONG(TM) baller bands, the Lance Armstrong-Nike union created a new breed of promotional marketing unlike any other. What started as a simple fund raising tool for the Lance Armstrong Foundation is now a fashion statement, a symbol for a good cause, a bearer of hope and of course a great marketing tool.

Today, it has gone far beyond its original purpose of raising enough money and awareness to support the fight against cancer. The original $5million goal has been surpassed more than five times over.

In addition, it has become such an iconic piece that it is now being re-sold everywhere at inflated prices. Even non-traditional channels like eBay are carrying the product. While the phenomenal spread of the bands don't always help out with its original cause (such is the case of reselling), it is nonetheless an amazing embodiment of the power of co-branding.

Choosing the right co-brand partner

When using the co-branding strategy for promotional products, choose a brand that you believe in. Find one with concepts that are pretty much aligned with your company's.

You should also consider your marketing stance carefully. While a great strategy, co-branding might backfire if the partner brand you choose overshadows your own. Decide whether you are going to aggressively market the promotional product as a brand product or if you should just casually mention it to your clients.

Saying that the giveaway pen is a Cross Pen or a Parker and forgetting to mention your own brand --or much worse placing your logo and brand name too inconspicuously -- just might make them forget that the item came from you in the first place.

The bottom line: Know the power of co-branding, but like all powerful things, learn to use it wisely.

Stizo Custom Kicks Takes on Hello Kitty

I found an interesting pair of custom Nikes offered by Stizo Custom Kicks as I was flipping through Nike Talk today. These Nikes combine the playful image of Hello Kitty with the color scheme of the Dominican Republic. I am not a huge Hello Kitty fan but I love the way that Stizo Custom Kicks has interpreted the children’s staple.

The shoe features a red/white/blue colorway that is modeled after the flag of the Dominican Republic. The image of Hello Kitty replaces the coat of arms for this Caribbean nation on the outside of both shoes. Stizo has added green laces as a colorful touch that deviates a bit from the Dominican theme.

Nike Air Force One has dived into the history of Nike to collaborate and re-create new editions for summer 2008.

This summer’s collection will use inspirations from sneakers to design new sneakers. Nike wants to honor the styles that have had the most impact in the company’s history. They had to research by designers, categories and innovative creations. This collection is by no means an old remake of antiques but a new attempt into the company’s creations. Nike wants to use its own rich resources to appreciate them and discover a new direction in Nike designs.

Tinker Hatfield, the Vice President of Innovation, has allowed the use of unusual materials like safari (Safari), metal mesh (Spiridon) and tennis ball inspired fabric (Talaria). Using new materials or using rare materials that other companies don’t use is important. It will give a competitive edge to Nike.

This summer collection has the Mowabb and Wildwood styles. New materials like industrial leathers are used for the first time.
Other features that the designers used were the light weight materials, reflectivity, bold colors, infra red colors, gradual change of colors and the silver bullet reflectivity.

In this pack, Nike is releasing three shoes in lime green, orangish red and bold purple colorways.

Nike SB Zoom Tre A.D - Rasta

If you are into the Rastafarian look, Nike has a look that should mesh perfectly with your style. While Nike has had some Rasta-themed releases in the past, these shoes might be their best effort yet.

While the shoes are mostly laidback, they have just enough Rasta style to make a fashion statement.

The colors most associated with the Rastafarian movement – red, yellow and green – are utilized smartly on these kicks.

Most of the shoe is black and white, however the splashes of color come into play mostly on the back of the shoe. The yellow Nike swoosh and the green Nike logo on the tongue are other places where the Rasta colors appear.

Air Jordan CP Chris Paul - White / Metallic Silver / Varsity Red / Black

If you’ve kept track of the 2007-08 NBA season, you’ve seen how Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets has been balling out of control. He’s a legitimate MVP candidate along with Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Kevin Garnett. There is no denying that Paul is an up-and-coming superstar in the NBA.

While Air Jordan has already released a couple of Air Jordan CP’s, a new one is scheduled to drop on the first of May. While the color scheme mostly features red and white, there is also a bit of grayish silver and jet black that adds some contrast to the shoes. Adidas Consortium ZX 9000 “Salmon”

A short while back we gave you a little taste of what was to come from the Adidas Consortium series in the form of late model ZX kicks. The ZX 9000 is coming back (finally) with a mixture of new age and old school touches. These ZX 9000’s are nicknamed the “Salmons” because of a scale like textured on the upper complimented with silver-cameleon reflect TPU’s like that of the fish. Other modern touches include leather lining, but Adidas keeps a hint of old school with an aged midsole.

Adidas is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Forum. Two and a half decades ago, the Adidas Forum was at the top of the pack setting the standard for tech specific basketball shoes. The ankle and heel support of the shoes were the answer that many ballers had been needing for years. After its initial release, break dancers were quite fond of the low top version of the shoe. Exemplified pivot point and strap to keep the kicks on made these a staple for any b-boy’s closet.

Adidas Steps Up For Puerto Rican Pride

With only two weeks until the Puerto Rican Day Parade its time to start picking out which sneakers you are going to make the march in. Adidas has put together two shoes for the day.

The first model (top) is the Adidas Decade Low. This shoe originally released as a high cut in 1985, but made a comeback in the Adidas Originals line starting in 2003 as a low.

The second shoe is from the Adidas Originals running section. Originally released in the 1980s as well, the ZX 600 features Adidas’s Torsion System which provides great support. The shoes also have a nice lightweight midsole and some colored pieces making the shoe a bit more interesting that most running shoes from this era.

Adidas NBA Superstars Collection

Not sure why I hadn't heard about this before but thanks to the beauty of email newsletters I can report on this fresh collection of Adidas NBA Superstar shell-toes. Each shoe represents a different team and if that isn't the most productive way to release a wide variety of colorways I don't know what is.

Personally I've never tried on a pair of shell-toe Adidas so I don't even know how they fit but there are some seriously dope colors in this pack. There's also a variety of fabrics, patterns, contrasting soles and laces in the mix. No two teams are alike but at $100 a pop you're gonna have to fixate on the top tier. Every team is represented so that's a good as way as any to narrow your choices.

My vote goes to the snakeskin 76'ers, the dope colored Hornets, and the black and yellow Warriors shoe. ILL !
